EDIE

Edie quietly shuts the door to her cabin and picks up her paddle board, gently balancing it above her head. She starts down the overgrown path, one that she has been walking for as long as she can remember. After a few minutes, she steps onto the weatherworn planks and hears the familiar creak of the dock beneath her. In the distance she sees a thin layer of fog dancing above the still blue water, and she sighs gratefully, knowing that there is nowhere else she’d rather be. She slips the board into the water and nimbly steps on, immediately pushing herself away from the dock. Her favorite thing to do is paddle along the edge of the shore, moving quietly, her eyes scanning for wildlife. This morning is quiet aside from a pair of swans gliding gracefully across the lake, seemingly unaware of her presence. Edie knows that she is lucky to know this place.
